Outstanding Longford athlete Cian McPhillips win the Gold medal in the 800m at the National Senior Indoor Championships

Rising Longford athletics star Cian McPhillips from Ardagh produced an impressive performance to win the 800m to claim his first ever National Senior Indoor title in a time of 1:52.79.

A product of Longford Athletics Club, class act Cian was running in the colours of UCD AC and crossed the finish line ahead of  Dara Donoghue (Lucan Harriers) and Mark Milner (UCD) to win the 800m final on Day 2  of the 123.ie National Senior Indoor Championships at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Dublin on Sunday evening. 

The vastly experienced Mark English, a four-time European medalist, did not compete in the 800m at the National Senior Indoors and he will also miss the World Indoors as he puts his mind on a bid to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
