Longford based Drama Group set to stage McDonagh classic

Newtowncashel Drama Group are delighted to be back preparing for this year’s production of ‘A Skull in Connemara’, a dark comedy, three act play by multi award winning writer and director Martin McDonagh.

Following an absence of three years due to the covid pandemic the group are busy rehearsing for the upcoming performances on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 1 - 3 next in The Hill hall.

A small cast of four characters involving newcomer Tom Conlon, Brian Kelly, Barbara Martin and Syl Healy along with the guidance and commitment of Director Dermot Healy are busy adding the final touches in preparation for the performance nights. 

Stage manager Larry Gallagher and lighting and effects controller Kevin Casey are also clocking up the hours of effort to help ensure a fully enjoyable night’s entertainment for all welcome patrons.

The group are delighted to welcome Tom Conlon, Tang for his first ever foray as an actor and Tom is flying in rehearsals, taking on a major role in the play and fulfilling a long term desire to take to the stage, having been a regular attendee at various productions by Newtowncashel Drama Group throughout the years.

Brian Kelly makes his second appearance with the group, adding to his great performance in the group’s last production in 2020. A talented musician and singer, Brian also possesses a natural ability on stage and is sure to deliver excellent performances throughout.

Barbara Martin and Syl Healy complete the cast quartet. Barbara and Syl have been acting with the group for many years and have both delivered some excellent performances throughout several productions. Their long term dedication and experience will surely add to a great upcoming weekend of Drama in Newtowncashel.

Newtowncashel Drama Group presents  ‘A Skull in Connemara’ by Martin McDonagh at The Hill, Newtowncashel on Friday, March 1 at 8.30pm ; Saturday, March 2 at 8.30pm and Sunday, March 3 at 8.30pm.
