Longford community saddened by death of inspirational Theresa McDermott Quinn

The Longford communities of Ardagh and Moydow have been plunged into sadness this evening following news of the death of inspirational local lady Theresa McDermott Quinn. 

Theresa of Cloncaulfield, Moydow died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family earlier today (Tuesday, February 27) and paying tribute, Ardagh Moydow GAA posted on their social media page, "It’s with a heavy heart, we hear of the sad passing of our friend, fellow executive member and supporter Theresa McDermott Quinn." 

Predeceased by her father Joe, her mother Rita and her brother Sean, the late Theresa will be deeply missed by her heartbroken family; husband Ronan, son Shane, sister Elizabeth Yorke, brothers Dermot, Richard and Joseph, mother-in-law Teresa Quinn, sisters in law, brothers in law, Shane's partner Cara, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, god-daughters, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.

The tribute continued, "For many years, Theresa has been an ever present in the club through our Minor, Ladies and Senior committees as well as on the side-lines supporting all our teams.

"In recent years, Theresa while battling illness continued to support the club and spearheaded Trek with Theresa, raising funds for local charities and the ladies club."

Indeed, in August 2022, Theresa's first trek across Ardagh mountain raised €15,500 for cancer charity LARCC.

While in 2023 the proceeds raised from the second Trek with Theresa went to St Brigid's Gaels Ladies Gaelic Football Club who appointed Theresa as the club's first President

Ardagh Moydow GAA wrote; "Theresa, your energy, enthusiasm and passion will be sorely missed in the club.

"To Ronan, Shane, Elizabeth, Joe, Dermot, Richard and extended family we extend our sincere sympathy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam."

The late Theresa McDermott Quinn will repose in Glennon's Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road, Longford, on Thursday evening, February 29 from 5pm concluding with prayers at 8pm.

Mass of the Resurrection takes place on Friday, March 1 at 12 noon in St Brigid's Church, Ardagh, interment afterwards in Moydow Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations, if desired, to the Irish Cancer Society c/o Glennon's Funeral Directors or any family member. House private except for close family and friends.
