Catherine Joseph, who was elected to the Green Party National Executive Committee last October, is the party's candidate in the Longford Municipal District.

According to Ms Joseph, who is a leading figure in Longford's Ethnic Minority Hub, the Green Party in Longford is a driving force for positive change, with a dedication to environmental sustainability, a circular economy and social equity.

The Ethnic Minority Hub provides comprehensive supports to migrant communities, helping them integrate into the Irish community, and empowering both marginalized communities and locals to combat racism and discrimination.  “Together, we're striving for a more equitable and just society.”

Ms Joseph herself was the target of online abuse since she commenced her election campaign but she has refused to let this toxicity that has become common place in politics to get to her.

She was delighted with her election to the Green Party's National Executive.

“This achievement marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a more environmentally conscious and inclusive future for rural Ireland, with a particular emphasis on the Longford region.

“The Greens are committed to addressing the challenges faced by Longford, rural Ireland, and the nation as a whole.

“Our party will work diligently to establish a structure that fosters inclusivity and support for individuals from all walks of life across Ireland.

Ms Joseph stated, “The Green Party, from my vantage point, plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of climate protection and social justice. We are at a crucial juncture where these issues demand our full attention, and I am committed to taking a leading role in this important work."
