The Go Yellow fundraiser, which originated in Meán Scoil Mhuire Longford, took place last week and was a resounding success.
The fundraiser, which was in aid of Children’s Health Ireland and the National Maternity Hospital, took place on Wednesday, May 1.
The fundraiser involved people around the country being encouraged to wear yellow and donate €2 to support the relevant organisations.
Scoil Mhuire TY student Maria McGlynn was inspired to start the fundraiser because of her twin brothers, Edward & Patrick McGlynn, pupils at Melview NS.

The lads, now aged 12, were born prematurely at 24 weeks. Their fight for life meant enduring several critical surgeries in children’s hospitals.
Maria enlisted her classmates Aoibheann Brennan-Grennan, Shauna Nolan and Ava Finneran to help out with the campaign.
School Deputy Principal Michelle Keogh told the Leader last week that over €12,000 had already been raised through the Go Yellow campaign, but that was far from being a final total, as other schools had yet to finish their fundraising efforts.
“Donations for the fundraiser can be made up until May 31,” Ms Keogh explained.
“The girls started working on the campaign last October,” she added.

The classmates have since put in exhaustive efforts to achieve their fundraising goal.
“The girls contacted the Irish Independent, set up social media platforms, produced a brochure and also went to visit other schools, both primary and secondary,” Ms Keogh explained.
“They have put in a phenomenal amount of work,” the Deputy Principal added.

Their efforts have also been rewarded by a prestigious nomination. The girls have been nominated for the Irish Red Cross Youth Humanitarian Awards.
The awards ceremony takes place on May 14.
May 1 in Meán Scoil Mhuire and many other schools saw a massive effort to back the campaign.
“The whole school wore yellow for the day. There were also events and activities held in the school throughout the day,” Ms Keogh stated.
