There is great sadness in the Drumlish/Newtownforbes area this week following the discovery of the remains of Peter Oliver Bohan.

The Cloonellan native’s body was found on Thursday evening of last week, following an extensive search operation.

Mr Bohan (79) was last seen shortly before 1 pm on Sunday, May 12.

Mr Bohan lived roughly halfway between the villages of Drumlish and Newtownforbes.

Extensive searches, led by gardaí, the Civil Defence and hundreds of volunteers, alongside the garda air support unit and sniffers, were conducted around the Drumlish area since Mr Bohan went missing.

His funeral mass takes place today (Wednesday, May 29) in St Mary’s Church, Drumlish.

Reacting to Mr Bohan’s death, local councillor Martin Monaghan hoped that the discovery of Mr Bohan’s remains would provide comfort to his family.

“The family can at least start the process of mourning, as a result of Peter Oliver’s body being found,” Cllr Monaghan told the Leader.

“I want to thank everyone who helped out. There was huge community spirit shown in the locality,” he added.
Cllr Monaghan described the search as “very well organised.”

“People gave their time to the search freely. It is an ease to the community that Peter Oliver’s remains were found,” he stated.

Peter Oliver was beloved husband of Maura and dear father to Antoinette and Caroline. Predeceased by his parents, Annie and Cornelius and his brothers James and Corney. Peter Oliver will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken family, his daughters' partners, Micho and Dara, his sister Annamae Cosgrove, brother John, brother-in-law James, sister-in-law Joan, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May he Rest In Peace.
