Early tallies in the Granard Electoral Area show a strong performance from Paraic Brady for Fine Gael but not for his near-neighbour David Cassidy who has not polled as well as hoped for Fianna Fáil.
While only six boxes have been tallied so far, around a third of the 19 to be counted, Brady has secured 44.5% of the vote so far, according to early tally figures. His performance according to tallies show him on 942 votes and already edging towards the projected quota.
Cassidy is running behind on 368 tallied votes, at 18.2%.
So far, boxes for Moyne NS Booth 1 and 2, Graigue NS and Drumlish NS Booth 1 and 2 and Cloontumpher NS Booth 2 have been tallied.
