Two great concerts planned as part of Longford's Camlin Keys Festival in July

Opening the Camlin Keys Festival in St John’s Church, on Friday, July 5 at 7pm are award-winning Athlone A Cappella

Excitement is building ahead of the two Camlin Keys Festival concerts planned for Friday night, July 5 and Saturday afternoon, July 6. 

Opening the Camlin Keys Festival in St John’s Church, on Friday,  July 5 at 7pm are award-winning Athlone A Cappella, a close harmony ladies barbershop chorus and in the Barber shop tradition the emphasis is on close, carefully arranged 4-part harmony with ragtime and nostalgic song styles.

Athlone A Cappella will be joined by Longford’s own Wings of Ukraine.  Set up as part of a National Ukrainian choir to join Phil Coulter last year, Wing’s of Ukraine has continued meeting and singing together in Longford.

Also travelling will be Moate's Sing4Fun Ubuntu Voices, an intercultural and intergenerational choir formed for the joy of singing together.  The three choirs will be singing both as individual groups and a couple of pieces all together, with a mix up of music from many genres of music including pop, choral, gospel and traditional folk songs, so a lively and happy evening promised!

On the Saturday, July 6, the afternoon Family Concert, will open with performances from the morning class entrants, then Athenias, Ariane-Eugenie and Aristide Selve, fresh from accomplishing many commendations in the RDS Feis Ceoil, will play violin, followed by Lenny Chen, returning to the  Camlin Keys Festival from Boyle, will play the piano, closing with Lenny, Aristide and Athénaís playing 6 hands on the piano!

Joanna Pearman explained, “We aim to encourage children to come and experience music played by their peers at our Family Concert, so under 16s are free, but must be accompanied by at least one paying adult (€10) per 5 children.

“As well as our concerts, we have Mindful Musician Workshop, Musical Theatre Workshop, Compose our Festival Work, and Musical Storytime with Danna Davis.  So much to look forward to, pre-booking is required.”
