The village of Lisryan is set to come alive once again for the 2nd annual Family Fun Weekend which is organised by the voluntary Tidy Village Committee to bring the community together and provide fun and games for both old and young alike.

The weekend event starts with mass in the Community Park on Friday, July 12 at 7.30pm followed by refreshments. This proved to be a great occasion last year where old friends met and reminisced over a cuppa.

The weekend events are currently being advertised through our social media platforms, 5km run on Saturday, July 13 at 12 noon – registration from 11.30am.

All age groups are welcome to register and take part in this event. Thanks to Longford Sports Partnership for assisting us with this in providing us with items for the race.

Saturday will see the park come alive with Hurling/Camogie skills (kindly facilitated by Ringtown GAA), football blitz for all age groups, obstacle races primarily for the young but the young at heart are more than welcome to come along and give it a go.
There will be stalls and the hospitality tent will be providing teas/coffees and locally baked treats.

Once again Faustina Rodgers is coming to the rescue and playing havoc with our waistlines with her magnificent treats. The day is scheduled to finish up from 4:30 to 5pm.

Sunday madness begins at 12 noon again with the very popular Kiddies Tractor Run, which proved very popular last year even in the rain.

This event will commence from the vicinity of Líos na Gaoithe estate. So dust down the little tractors, scooters, trikes or whatever pedal power the children have in the house and come along and enjoy the fun.

Again the park will be action packed with the addition of Bouncy Castles on the Sunday, hook a duck, wellie throwing and good old fashioned novelty races for young and old and more.

There will be live music from 2:30 to 4:30pm.

The weekend event is free to all over the weekend. There will be raffle tickets on sale throughout the course of the weekend with some great prizes on offer.

Committee member Angela Mulligan said, “Again, we as a committee could not organise these events without the very kind and much appreciated support of the local community, through sponsorship, volunteering time, skills etc to help with all we do. A huge thank you to one and all.

“We hope to see you all there and help in making more memories in our ever growing community, it is just so true that while it may be a small village, Lisryan has got one enormous heart, a huge sense of pride in the village and a level of inclusion and support that sadly is not in every little village in Ireland.

“We are very proud to work towards keeping the community together by bringing it together in the facility of the Community Park which we worked hard to develop and still maintain. It is now a central hub for all in the community and provides a safe environment for children to play.”

Ms Mulligan concluded, “We hope to see you over the weekend of Friday, July 12 to Sunday, July 14 - bring an umbrella just in case!”
