The town of Arva is winding down this week following another successful Arva Agricultural Show.
The 65th instalment of this big day out in the local community took place on Sunday last.
The weather played its part too, with warm sunshine adding to the enjoyment of the day.
Show Secretary Alannah Finnegan was happy with how the event went, when she spoke to the Leader.
“The weather was fabulous on the day and everyone was in good spirits, with an attendance of around 2,500 on the day,” she explained.
Alannah, aged 26, is one of the youngest show secretaries in the country. This is her second year in the role.
“I am really happy with how everything went. It went smoothly,” she stated.
With Arva being in such a central location, where three provinces meet, the show attracted visitors from all around the region.
“The show was attended by people from the neighbouring counties, as well as far afield as Roscommon, Offaly and Monaghan,” Alannah explained.
As usual, there were high standards in the various classes this year.
“The Hereford Class was of a particularly high standard. In the Homecraft section, the judges also took a lot of time over their decisions,” she stated.
Apart from the usual agricultural classes, there were also lots of attractions.
These included the performance of Ballinamuck singer David Kiernan, the dog Show and the display of birds of prey.
