Maynooth University saw 250 teenagers from around the world gather for the Foróige’s Leadership for Life Youth Conference.
The conference brings together young people to learn the skills and confidence to become leaders in their own lives and communities.
During the week-long conference the teens learn crucial life skills such as empathy, decision making, problem solving, communication skills, critical thinking and team work.
Seán Campbell, CEO of Foróige, said “Leadership for Life is a circuit-breaker programme and can truly be life-changing for young people. This conference gives them the chance to not just learn from expert speakers and facilitators, but also to develop themselves and grow with each other in a fun and relaxed environment.
"Year on year I’m amazed by what young people can achieve when given the chance and the support. Every young person deserves to be able to access programmes like this.”
Jack, aged 17 from Longford, opened the conference stating: “I started my leadership journey early last year. I’ve never regretted it and I never will. When I started, I was a shy type of guy who didn’t like leaving his room in fear of the world and the people in it. After taking part in the Leadership for Life programme, I gained so much confidence.
"I was giving speeches, I was putting my name down for as many different opportunities as I could, I even started leaving my room more to learn more about things I was interested in doing. I couldn’t recommend this programme more, because the more you put in the more you get out in terms of life skills, friendships and just overall the enjoyment you get from it will be overwhelming. Leadership for Life is a life changing programme!”
As part of the week-long conference, the delegates met inspirational guest speakers.
