Tributes paid to energetic Longford nun who worked as a teacher and principal in Los Angeles

The Late Sr Ellen Mary Conefrey, Paramount, Los Angeles, California and formerly Corglass, Moyne, Longford / Leitrim

The death occurred peacefully in the loving care of the Daughters of Mary & Joseph Community on Tuesday, September 3 of Sr Ellen Mary Conefrey, Paramount, Los Angeles, California and formerly Corglass, Moyne, Longford / Leitrim. 

Predeceased by her loving parents John Joe and Bridget, her brothers Seamus (NY), Tommy (Corglass), Sean and Charlie (SF), her sister’s Anna Mae Williams (Rossan) and Lizzy Morris (Legga), and her nephew Tommy Williams. Very sadly missed by her sisters in law Sally Conefrey (SF) and Peggy Conefrey (Corglass), her adored 18 nephews and nieces, her grand nephews and grand nieces, her good friends Sr Anna May O’Reilly, Sr Peggy, Sr Mary and Sr Teresa in Paramount, the daughters of Mary and Joseph Community, cousins, relatives and friends. May her Gentle Soul Rest In Peace. 

Sr Ellen's funeral will take place on Monday, September 16 in Culver City, Los Angeles at 11am.

Dromard GAA extended its sympathy to the Conefrey and Morris families on the death of Sr Ellen.

Paying tribute the club  said Sr Ellen was a wonderful energetic and positive woman who was a joy to meet.

Sr Ellen left Ireland over 60 years ago and worked as a teacher and principal in the Los Angeles region where she was a highly esteemed member of the Daughters of Mary and Joseph Community.

Sr Ellen maintained a strong connection with Dromard parish and was a regular visitor home including most recently in July and August just passed when, remarkably, at the age of 96 she travelled home from LA for four weeks.

Sr Ellen was a loyal Dromard supporter and kept up to date with the fortunes of the club and attended games when visiting home.

Sr Ellen also generously donated to the Club a cabinet containing a statue of Mary which is currently on display in the Clubhouse. 

The Club offers its condolences to Sr Ellen’s extended family and her Community of Mary and Joseph in California. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.
