John Connell is set to launch his book in the US
The success of John Connell's Twelve Sheep: Life Lessons from a Lambing Season is set for a new chapter as the book will get its US launch next month.
It's a disservice to refer to Connell simply as a “Granard author”, as his career spans television, print and public speaking.
“My latest bestseller, Twelve Sheep, is coming out in America next month and I will be in New York on October 10 for the launch,” he told the Leader.
John is hoping the New York launch will follow the success of his local unveiling where there was standing room only at Longford Library last April.
Twelve Sheep: Life Lessons from a Lambing Season follows on from The Cow Book and The Running Book with the same eclectic blend of history, philosophy and nature with which the author has struck a chord with readers across the globe.
Formally launched by Éamon Ó Cuív the book is aimed at evoking an “appreciation of how beautiful life can be”.
The inspiration for John's latest offering is once again centred on the importance of the pastoral: “This book emerged from a period of soul tiredness,” he said.
“I had been travelling the world with The Cow Book and I was tired. I needed to re-root and the idea of these 12 sheep came to me. I wanted to be invested in something greater than myself,” John told the Leader.
Since the Irish launch John has once again embarked on a global adventure: “The book has been on a great journey coming out in Ireland, the UK and this summer I was busy promoting it in Australia and New Zealand.
“America and Canada will be the next port of call. The book was an instant number one bestseller here in Ireland and spent months on the bestsellers list, I was delighted with that,” he said.
Aside from touring John is keeping busy: “I have started work on the next book and will hopefully have news on that soon.
“Otherwise there are multiple projects on the go in TV, theatre and of course my farming work which is the bedrock of everything.”
Twelve Sheep: Life Lessons from a Lambing Season is available to buy in all good bookstores.
