Yesterday, as a result of risk profiling, Revenue officers seized 8 million cigarettes in County Meath.
The illicit cigarettes, branded ‘MAC’, have an estimated value of €7,215,000 and represent a potential loss to the Exchequer of €5,706,000.
Investigations are ongoing.
This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes and tobacco in the shadow economy. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
