Fine Gael adds third candidate to Longford / Westmeath line up for General Election

Tanya Cannon has been selected by Fine Gael to represent the party in the Longford-Westmeath constituency in the General Election, alongside Minister Peter Burke and Senator Micheál Carrigy.

 Fine Gael have now chosen 70 General Election candidates in 41 constituencies – 41 men and 29 women.

Well known Athlone based businesswoman Tanya Cannon: “I am truly honoured to be representing Fine Gael in the forthcoming General Election. As a party member for many years, I was inspired by the late Nicky McFadden, who was an excellent public representative for Longford-Westmeath and whose work impacted positively on the lives of so many.

 “I was born and raised in Athlone and now I own and run my own award-winning business in the town, giving employment to a number of people.

“As a sports enthusiast, I have always supported our local clubs in whatever way I can. Sport delivers so much to any community; a reason to keep fit, a social network and a common purpose uniting all.

“My ambitions for this constituency are boundless. Longford-Westmeath is a vibrant constituency, and its needs are many. Many of us lucky enough to be born and reared here want to continue to live here.

“That’s why we need to ensure a continuous pipeline of delivery of housing, which will be one of my key priorities if elected to Dáil Éireann. Quality community-based healthcare services are also required to look after our ageing population, along with further investment in transport infrastructure and youth facilities for our large student population.

 “The ability to work, live and contribute positively to my home town is at the heart of everything I have done and worked for throughout my life.

“Nobody should be deprived of an opportunity to succeed, this is something I feel passionately about and which I demonstrate on a daily basis. I am confident in my abilities to deliver a positive future for the people of Longford-Westmeath, should they vote for me in the General Election,” Ms Cannon said
