There was support from Longford councillors for a review of the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) to ensure each municipal district is given an annual allocation in future.


More than €938,000 was allocated to Longford County Council for road improvement work and a selection criteria was used to decide which roads to prioritise.
No roads in Longford Municipal District received any funding.


Fianna Fáil Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi asked a future condition be included that a minimum of one road per municipal district area receives funding.
Cllr Martin Monaghan supported the motion.


Senior executive engineer of Longford MD, David McNiff said under the terms of the scheme funding allocations could not be divided out between councillors based on their geographical areas.
However, Cllr Adejinmi said she believed it should be looked at.


"While I accept the situation, nothing is set in stone and I think we should go back and highlight the impact of those stipulations on the counties,"
