Talented Longford performers launch their excellent songbook 'The Ross Sisters Sing'

Grace, Erin, James, Geraldine, Seamus and Sorcha Ross

Grace and Erin Ross, otherwise known as The Ross Sisters, recently launched their brand new songbook, ‘The Ross Sisters Sing,’ which features a whopping 39 songs. Upon purchase, an exclusive QR code will be available along with the book, giving exclusive access to their brand-new album.

We sat down with one-half of this dynamic duo, Grace Ross to talk about the inception of ‘The Ross Sisters Sing’
“It was Pauline Flood who gave us the idea to do it,” explains Grace, “Initially it was just meant to be a book but then she said, “You should do an album” and she got on to Paul Gurney who helped us with the album.”

“Erin did most of the work for it,” she recalls, “ In terms of getting songs ready and the recording because I was in Dublin most of the time and she was at home.

“The official launch was in Edgeworthstown community library on Thursday (October 24), it was more of a serious one so I was so nervous but once Erin started singing with me I was grand.”

The songs on the album and in the book are a mix, they are traditional but not the kind you’d be used to hearing.

“They're all old Irish songs about leaving Ireland and Sean nós songs and ballads,” she explains, “So if you’re leaving Ireland and you’re missing home, they’re the kind of songs that would make you miss home more.

“There’s a song called ‘Erin Grá mo Chroí’ that Erin sings and always makes me cry,”

Another song featured on the album is Emigrants Eye, the theme of emigration features strongly within many of the pieces in the book and album.

“Now that it’s out it’s a relief because a lot of work was put into it and a lot of time and energy,”

“I was worried people wouldn't think much of it,” she admitted.

Thankfully her fears were proven wrong, and the reactions to The Ross Sisters' release have been nothing but stellar.

If anyone is interested in purchasing the book, message the girls on The Ross Sisters' Facebook to arrange it.
