It's one of the most important voluntary groups in the county and this weekend they are putting out a call to the public for their support.

With the focus now turning to the festive season Lough Ree RNLI hosts its annual sale of gifts, memorabilia and Christmas cards at a special ‘pop-up’ shop at the lifeboat station at Coosan Point on Saturday next (November 16).

The shop will be open to the public from 1:00pm until 3.30pm. As the charity comes to the end of its 200th anniversary year many of the commemorative products specially commissioned for the birthday are still available. For the junior lifeboat people in your life there are many stocking fillers on sale that cannot be found elsewhere. As usual, the greatest attraction will be the 2024 RNLI Christmas card range which are greatly cherished both by the senders and the fortunate recipients.

Ever present on the lake since 2012 the charity and its volunteers have assisted more than 1,500 people in over 500 call-outs over the past 11 years. Today more than 40 volunteers make up the response team at Lough Ree RNLI.

Lough Ree RNLI Treasurer, Vincent Rafter said this week: “The charity greatly depends on the support of the local community and we are looking forward to welcoming all our visitors from around Lough Ree to our annual Christmas sale on Saturday.”

The RNLI charity saves lives. Its volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service around the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland coasts. The RNLI operates 238 lifeboat stations in the UK and Ireland and more than 240 lifeguard units on beaches around the UK and Channel Islands.
