Longford planners to consider application to construct 39 houses in Newtownforbes

Longford County Council is set to make a decision on a planning application to construct 39 houses at Corry, Newtownforbes.

Watters Construction & Rental Ltd submitted plans with the local authority in December 2023 for the proposed construction of 39 houses consisting of 22 semi-detached two storey, four semi detached single storey, one detached single storey, one detached two storey and eleven detached two storey dwellings.

The development will also include the provision of a new entrance and access road; green open space, boundary fences /walls with internal pedestrian pathway; connection to public services with sewer and water supply and all associated ancillary site works.

There were nine submissions made on the plan by January 19, 2024. The planners initially expected to announce their decision by February 9, 2024, however further information in respect of the plans was submitted in February and July of this year.

Submissions from private individuals objecting to the proposed development included issues with title, zoning, archaeology, loss of privacy, and traffic consideration.

The local authority planners will make a decision on the project in the coming days.

The council planners have approved an application for restoration works at Longford's historic Temperance Hall.

The application by Templemichael Parish Resources for the works have been approved subject to five conditions.

The proposed development includes new solar panels, repair works and insulation to the roof.

Officially opened in 1905 years ago by the then Archbishop of Armagh the building has been a community focal point for over 100 years.
