Cllr David Cassidy has called for the introduction of Autism friendly parking in Longford
A motion for Autism friendly parking spaces has been put forward in the most recent meeting of Longford County Council.
The motion was put forward by Councillor David Cassidy who said, “I call on Longford County Council to write and liaise with ASD Ireland to identify and allocate Autism Friendly Parking Spaces throughout our towns in Longford.”
“This is really following on from a motion that I did in December about the state of the disabled parking spaces and it was brought to my attention by a few people.

“Parking can be a stressful experience for families and individuals with autism and there are disability parking bays in our towns but these do not enable people with autism that have an ASD parking permit to park in.
“It would be a progressive step for Longford to become an autism-friendly county and it’s vital that those parking bays be in close proximity to shops, shopping centres, medical centres and playgrounds and I would like your support on that,” said Cllr Cassidy.
