Addressing littering in the environs of one of Longford's top tourist attractions is the target of a community initiative in Kenagh this weekend.
The Kenagh & District Development Association (KDDA) will host their annual spring clean litter pick next Saturday, March 29, commencing at 10:00am. Participants will meet up at Mosstown Harbour before embarking on the clean up.
The group hopes to target the area around Corlea bog and the inspiring relic of prehistory, the Iron Age road that was built in 148 BC.
“We have bags and litter pickers ready for anyone who can help out,” the organisers told the Leader, “All we are asking is for the volunteers to bring hi-vis clothing and gloves if they have them.”
The spring clean is part of the efforts to keep the beautiful Longford village in pristine condition: “The more people that turn out the more litter we can pick,” the organiser said, “We have been posting about all the dumping at Corlea bog. This is an area we hope to tackle with the support of the community.”
The group have been making steady progress in the Tidy Towns competition and scored 333 in last year's assessment.
KDDA is the local Tidy Towns and development group who work on enhancing the village.
