Eoghan Donlon and Fergus McHugh as they began their 140km cycle from Dublin to Longford on Father’s Day in aid of the Longford Hospice in St Joseph’s Care Centre in memory of the late Peter J McHugh
On Father's Day, Fergus McHugh and his friend Eoghan Donlon completed a 140km cycle from Dublin to Longford in aid of the Longford Hospice in St Joseph’s Care Centre.
Fergus explained that they undertook the ‘Dublin to Longford Cycle' for Longford Hospice to raise funds in memory of his late dad, Peter J McHugh, who died on March 12 last and to help support the incredible work the Longford Hospice does every day.
Fergus added, “In the final weeks before dad passed, Longford Hospice in St Joseph’s provided care, compassion and comfort that made an immeasurable difference to dad and to our family.”

Their services are delivered free of charge and funded through community generosity and fundraising efforts like this one.
Fergus and Eoghan have raised over €5,760 in donations and this will support: Home-based palliative care for those wishing to remain at home; Specialist nurses and support staff who provide round-the-clock care; Emotional and psychological support for patients and families and Bereavement services to help loved ones through loss.
Fergus said the cycle is just a small way of saying ‘thank you’ – and helping ensure that other families facing heartbreaking moments can receive the same level of care and dignity that his Dad did.
