After a small break since the Covid pandemic, it is entering its second consecutive year
The iconic Ballinamuck Olde Fair is returning for another year. With last year being the first since the Covid pandemic, the 2024 fair was very successful, having had plenty of stalls, dancing and displays for attendees to enjoy. Entertainment for the event will include Mick Flavin. There is also a raffle, as well as bingo. It kicks off with a vintage parade at 1pm, starting at Gaigue Cross down to the field of ‘98 and led by Longford Pipe Band. On Saturday 12, the day prior to the main festivities, a demonstration of Boxty making is in Johnny’s Cottage from 3pm to 5pm. It is on from July 12 to 13.
Gates on Sunday open at 11:30am.
Chairperson, Hugh Donnelly, said: “It was a successful year. Good crowd, good weather. It’s a good family fun day–lots of displays of different things.”
Adding that there is something for both young and old, the fair promises amusements, kids’ entertainment, as well as free horse and trap rides up and down the road. The committee is made up of twelve to fourteen members.

“They’re a hard-working committee,” added Hugh. “But we always welcome new members. Everybody is welcome to come in with new ideas. We do not want the same thing every year. Reach out via Facebook. We advertise on Facebook when reaching the AGM, as well as the stalls. We’re always seeking out new stalls.”

Despite being an ‘Olde Fair’, the general concept is to bring something new. Unlike many events around the county, the Ballinamuck Olde Fair does not have any sponsors. Any money made on the day is used to fund for the following year. Extra profits then go towards charities around the area. The Ballinamuck Olde Fair is, therefore, self-sufficient and economical, always being grounded and realistic on what it can bring.
