The 23rd Annual Breffni 3 Province Challenge took place in Arva on Saturday, August 2, with seven events there was something for everyone.

For cyclists they had 100k, 50k and 30k distances. For runners they had a Half Marathon, and 10k, both chip timed, and for everyone of every age and ability, a choice of 7k or 5k. All funds raised go to Cavan/Monaghan Palliative Care Fund, National Breast Cancer Research Institute, Galway and Friends of St Luke’s Oncology Trust.

This was the most successful event to date with 980 people taking part and is a credit to the organising committee who spent long hours putting everything in place.

As usual Eddie Quinn was on stage to keep the music going for hours.

Gerry Brady, Loughdavin  and John Duffy, Fyhora welcomed everyone home and interviewed some of the participants.

On a beautiful day it was great to see so many sitting around after taking part and savouring the atmosphere on the Market Square.

The children enjoyed getting their faces painted so to the lady who spent many hours doing that we say thank you. A huge thanks to the Ladies who provided tea and sandwiches all day long and thanks to those who provided the sandwiches.

To all the stewards from the Arva area and from the adjoining areas, the marshals on their motorbikes, the Civil Defence members and to everyone who helped in any way a big thank you.

Lastly we say thanks to the 980 participants without whom it would not happen – we hope you all enjoyed the event and look forward to 2026.

There were at least thirty counties represented and hopefully our 24th event will have participants from all 32 counties.
