Organised by the Longford Penneys department manager, Betty Farrell, she discussed how she first came across the idea and why she wanted to get involved:
“I was browsing on my phone one evening last week and Alzheimer's came up so I decided I wanted to do a fundraiser as I have family friends who would have Alzheimer's,” she explained.
Saying that the organisation came together really quick, the fundraising effort also had spot prices from a raffle. Many businesses in the local area got involved with the good cause.
Betty named who she wanted to express appreciation towards to have made this possible:
“A special word of thanks to the following businesses who donated spot prizes: J.F Builders, Spirit Clothing, Ganlys, Baxters Pharmacy, The Salon No.1 Drumlish, Sherpack. Fox's Gala Ballinelee.”
Betty added that her initial expectation and goal for the fundraiser would be around €1,000 approximately. However, the success of her efforts surpassed what she had initially intended.
“I thought I would raise around €1000. But with the very generous donations from the people of Longford I have raised €2300.”

This impressive figure has led to great appreciation towards Longford's charitable spirit.
“I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me pull it together,” concluded Betty.
