Longford County Council invites applications for club and volunteer sports schemes

Applications are particularly welcome from new clubs or clubs involved in minority sports

Longford County Council, through Longford Sports Partnership has invited applications for the Club Development and Volunteer Supports scheme for 2025. The scheme is funded by Sport Ireland.


Funding under the scheme is available for sports organisations aiming to increase participation in sport and physical activity through innovative initiatives.

The maximum grant is €500 for club development, which includes equipment and €500 for volunteer supports, which includes coaching. Expenditure already spent in 2025 can be used.


Applications are particularly welcome from new clubs or clubs involved in minority sports. Applications are also welcome from projects targeting groups who have low levels of participation, including older people, girls and women, people with disabilities, unemployed people and those who live in identified disadvantaged communities.

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Cllr Garry Murtagh said:


“Supporting local sports clubs is vital to building stronger, healthier communities. This scheme not only helps clubs grow and thrive, but also ensures that everyone—regardless of age, ability or background—has the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity. This funding scheme represents a meaningful investment in the development of local clubs and the volunteers who sustain them."


Chief Executive of Longford County Council, Paddy Mahon said, “We welcome the continued support of Sport Ireland in enabling this important initiative. By providing targeted funding for club development and volunteer training, we are strengthening the infrastructure of sport in County Longford. This scheme reflects our shared ambition to promote equity, inclusion and active citizenship through sport.”

To be eligible for this scheme, sports clubs must be registered with County Longford Public Participation Network (PPN). To register, visit Longfordppn.ie. Alternatively, see the Club Development and Volunteer Supports scheme application form for County Longford PPN contact details.


The closing date for completed applications is 5pm on Friday, 31 October 2025.


Late applications will not be considered. Application forms are available to download on Longfordsports.ie.
