Longford County Council was represented at the recent Age Friendly Ireland National Recognition Awards at the Galmont Hotel, Galway. 

The council was represented at the awards by Cathaoirleach Cllr Garry Murtagh, Deputy Chief Executive John Brannigan, Longford Age Friendly Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, Kitty Burkhill and Kitty Hughes, Age Friendly Ambassador Eamonn Brennan and Paula Mulry Longford Age Friendly Co-ordinator. 

The Age Friendly Recognition Awards were organised by Age Friendly Ireland, the national organisation implementing the Government’s vision of an Age Friendly Ireland.

Hosted by Galway City and County Councils at the Galmont Hotel, the awards celebrated excellence across eight categories of transport, communication, healthy ageing, housing, environment, safety and security, business and community innovation each aligned with World Health Organisation (WHO) Age Friendly themes.

The awards also highlight the commitment of communities across the country to improving the quality of life for older people.
