A strong contingent turned out to represent Longford County Council at the Age Friendly Ireland National Recognition Awards, which took place in Galway's Galmont Hotel recently.
In attendance on the night were Deputy Chief Executive John Brannigan, Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Councillor Garry Murtagh, Longford Age Friendly Chairperson and Vice Chairperson, Kitty Burkhill and Kitty Hughes, Age Friendly Ambassador Eamonn Brennan, and Longford Age Friendly Co-ordinator, Paula Mulry.
The awards - which were hosted by Galway City and County Councils, and were organised by Age Friendly Ireland, the national organisation implementing the government’s vision of an age friendly country - highlighted the commitment of communities across the country to improving the quality of life for older people.
On the night, the awards recognised and celebrated excellence across eight categories.
The categories included transport, communication, healthy ageing, housing, environment, safety and security, business and community innovation each aligned with World Health Organisation (WHO) Age Friendly themes.
