Garda manhunt underway following armed robbery at Longford town casino

Gardaí and ambulance service on the scene at Ballymahon Street, Longford

Longford Gardaí are investigating an incident, which occurred at a casino in the town centre yesterday, in which a man produced a weapon and 'stole' his winnings from the office.

The weapon brandished at the scene is believed to have been a gun.

Gardaí are pursuing a definite line of inquiry and have taken CCTV from inside the casino as well as footage from a security camera outside the premises.

The suspect, who has not yet been arrested, is said to have won money in the casino, and upon approaching the office to collect his winnings, is believed to have produced a weapon, kicked open the door, and entered the office to take the money.

He then left the casino, at which point the Gardaí and paramedics were called to the scene.

Unconfirmed reports say a staff member sustained injuries during the incident and was treated at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570 or the Garda confidential line 1800 666 111.
