A 55 year old Solvakian man who pleaded guilty to stealing €6,000 from a Longford customer, has been given until February next year “to be in a more realistic position to pay the money back.”
Mr Lubomir Sokol of 28 Applewood Ave West in Swords, Dublin appeared before a recent sitting of Longford District Court on theft and fraud offences, with an interpreter translating proceedings for him.
The court heard how on a date between July 17 and 24 2024, Mr Sokol had accepted €6,000 from a woman for the purchase of windows, however the windows were never installed.
Addressing the court, his solicitor John Anderson, explained that Mr Sokol “had huge health problems” and asked for a probation report “so we can get the full insight into this man.”

Mr Anderson said his client wanted to return the money to the lady but was currently out of work.
“He had every intention of providing her with the windows she wanted,” Mr Anderson explained. “But he had a health issue and it spiralled. He is hoping to get a loan so he can pay her back.”
Mr Sokol, who has no previous convictions, was remanded on continuing bail until February 3 2026 with a view to a probation report being prepared and for Mr Sokol to be “in a more realistic position to offer compensation.”
