Longford judge hears DPP directions awaited in vicious assault case

The case was heard at Longford District Court

A man accused of violently assaulting a woman earlier this year - an assault in which he is alleged to have punched and kicked the victim - has been remanded on bail until December as the court awaits directions from the office of the DPP.

Aleksandr Laskin of Abbeylara, Longford, appeared before a recent sitting of Longford District Court on a charge of assault causing harm at his address on May 5 of this year.

Solicitor John Anderson represented the accused on legal aid, who appeared in court on the day accompanied by a Ukrainian interpreter.

Sergeant for the State, Mark Mahon, said there was no medical report but submitted a statement of injuries from the victim accompanied by photographs of the injuries sustained.

Judge Owens refused jurisdiction, meaning the case would not be heard by her court.

Mr Laskin was remanded on continuing bail to appear before the December 9 sitting by which point directions from the DPP are expected to be received.
