Longford County LGFA Vice-Captain Katie Crawford cut the ribbon alongside the store team to open Lidl’s 190th store in Ireland

Lidl Ireland opened the doors to its brand new store in Ballymahon last Thursday, bringing its 'More to Value' proposition to even more shoppers in County Longford.

Located on Church View, Main Street, the new Lidl store marks a major milestone in the retailer’s ambitious expansion programme and has created 25 permanent retail jobs for the community in what has been a highly anticipated opening, with planning permission granted earlier this year.

Longford County LGFA Vice-Captain, Katie Crawford officially cut the ribbon and she greeted shoppers as they enjoyed opening day festivities.

Lidl Ballymahon had a great range of opening day offers available for customers and the first ten shoppers through the doors received complimentary Lidl gift vouchers to redeem in-store.

To mark the opening as part of its commitment to the local community, the Lidl Ballymahon store team selected local charity Bridgeways Family Resource Centre, to receive a generous donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers. Bridgeways Family Resource Centre provides a full range of activities for the whole community and believes in justice, equality and inclusivity.

The new Ballymahon store reflects Lidl’s established ‘concept’ design and features a spacious sales floor, offering a premier shopping experience for customers including self-service checkouts, long tills, and the popular in-store bakery offering fresh baked goods daily.

Sustainability is a key focus for the Ballymahon store as the retail unit incorporates an ISO 50001-certified energy management system.

This includes high performing energy efficient technologies, the installation of solar panels (PV panels), LED lighting with Dali control, heat recovery systems, a DRS Machine, ample parking and electric vehicle (EV) charging points further supports sustainable transport options for customers and store teams.

At the official opening Tom McAuliffe, Regional Managing Director for Lidl Ireland said:

“We are delighted to open our new store in Ballymahon. This significant investment will provide long-term employment opportunities, substantially boosting the local economy.

“Designed with a keen focus on customer experience and sustainability, the innovative store boasts an energy-efficient design and unique amenities. Shoppers can continue to expect our commitment to offering high-quality products at market-leading value.

“We are incredibly grateful for the warm welcome and support from the local community, and we enjoyed meeting many residents at this morning's opening. We look forward to welcoming many more shoppers over the coming weeks as they get to know the new team and experience the benefits of this brand new store.”

Longford County LGFA Vice-Captain, Katie Crawford, added:

“I am thrilled to be part of the celebrations and to officially open Lidl's new store in Ballymahon. It was great fun to be part of the official ribbon cutting and meeting all the customers.

“Lidl has been a fantastic partner to LGFA for years, and it's great to see them investing even more in our community. Lidl Ballymahon is a huge boost for the area by creating new local jobs and providing local shoppers with access to Lidl's exceptional quality food at great value!”
