A Longford community group says they have been "blown away" by how far a video from their recent Christmas event has travelled online.

The video - which showed two Longford Gardaí, Colm Satchwell and David Buckley, 'arresting' the Grinch for trying to steal presents from children in attendance at the event - has resulted in a huge response since it was first posted.

Amy McGlynn, Community Development Worker with the Longford Roma and New Communities CDP based in the Longford Community Resources, told the Longford Leader they "never expected it to reach such a wide audience."

Amy added, "Our Santa event on Thursday, December 4, was a huge success for our Roma community development project, which is hosted within Longford Community Resources CLG (LCRL). The celebration was held in LCRL for our Roma children and families, and the atmosphere was full of excitement and Christmas spirit. A special thank you goes to Longford’s Community Gardaí, Colm and Davy, who escorted Santa to the event and added great fun by playfully ‘arresting’ the Grinch for trying to take presents from the children."

She added "Community Garda involvement in local events is vital for building positive relationships and offering meaningful support. Their ongoing involvement in our community activities is always appreciated. Their presence highlights the value of partnership and community connection, especially in the work LCRL carries out with marginalised communities. We are incredibly thankful for their continued support and we are delighted this video has brought joy to so many people, especially the children.”
