Carol Service
Our annual Carol service took place in St Mel's Cathedral on Thursday, December 11. Our School Carol Service is a cherished moment in our calendar, bringing students, staff, and families together through music, prayer and reflection. Today’s service invited us to look back on the first Christmas and its message of hope and kindness. Through carols and readings, we celebrate both the origins of the season and the values that continue to unite our school community. We also heard how Christmas is celebrated around the world. A special thank you to all involved including Ms Macko and the students who read and to Ms O’Reilly and her amazing Choir.

TY and LCA Christmas Tour
Our TY and LCA students enjoyed a spectacular trip to Dublin last Thursday on their annual Christmas trip! The students thoroughly enjoyed showcasing their skating skills with a visit to Dundrum On Ice. They then indulged in some retail therapy in Dundrum Shopping Centre. We would like to sincerely thank Ms. Devaney, Ms. Clancy, Ms. Flynn and Claire O’Donnell for accompanying the students.

LCA Spanish Event
Congratulations to our Fifth Year LCA students for hosting a Spanish event as part of their general education project. The event was held for Second Year students. The LCA class baked Spanish dishes, organised games in Spanish and encouraged the Second Years to join them in a Spanish dance. A big thank you to the Home Economics and Spanish Departments for assisting, guiding and helping the students in this endeavour. We would also like to thank the TY Spanish exchange students for their invaluable assistance. Well done to all.

Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year Awards
Transition Year students had an incredible opportunity this week as they travelled to Leinster House to present their social enterprise proposal for the Young Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2025, last Wednesday. The group, Olivia, Emily, Aoife, Emma, and Aoibhinn (who was unfortunately missing from the photos on the day), showcased their inspiring social enterprise concept “Teen Threads.” Their proposal focused on a student-run second-hand clothing initiative promoting sustainability while offering young people valuable workplace experience. Though it remained a proposal, their creativity, insight, and passion were truly impressive. They presented alongside students from across Offaly, Roscommon, and Westmeath, and while they did not take home the overall title, they represented Mean Scoil Mhuire with exceptional confidence, professionalism, and maturity.

During their visit to Leinster House, they had the wonderful opportunity to meet Micheál Carrigy TD, Senator Paraic Brady and Minister of State Jerry Buttimer, who warmly welcomed them, spoke with them about their project, and presented them with certificates and goodie bags in recognition of their efforts. They were also congratulated by Margaret Mulligan of Longford County Council, highlighting the pride of the local community in their achievement. A heartfelt thank you to Ms O’Brien, whose guidance, encouragement, and dedication played a vital role in helping the girls develop and refine their proposal to such a high standard. Thank you also to Ms Flynn, who accompanied the students on the day. Well done, girls. You have done your school, your community, and your county proud.
