Important steps are taken to showcase award winning Longford village in best possible light

Ardagh village

A councillor has called on Longford County Council to have the grass area on the heritage centre side of Ardagh enhanced to become a more attractive approach to this heritage village.

Fine Geal Councillor Paul Ross said in terms of looking at possible improvements the area 'stood out as an unattractive approach to Ardagh' and there is a desire to make a change.

The Legan-based representative said it was important that steps were taken to showcase the village in the best possible light.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Mick Cahill seconded the motion and he said it was a good motion and he agreed with the points raised by Cllr Ross.

Senior Executive Engineer with Longford County Council, Brian McNeela, who visited the area with Cllr Ross several days before the meeting, said they will review proposals from the local Tidy Town groups aimed at enhancing the entrance to the village.

"We appointed a fencing contractor and we will work with community group over the coming months," he added.
