RIP: Late Eddie Brady was synonymous with community life in Mullahoran and sang in the church choir for almost 80 years

The Late Edward (Eddie) Brady, Cloncovet, Kilcogy, Cavan

The death occurred peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 29, 2025 of Edward (Eddie) Brady, Cloncovet, Kilcogy, Cavan.

The family was known locally as ‘Brady’s of Shanwilla’, it is said that once upon a time there was a an old settlement on the land.

Eddie, who was born on August 31, 1933 was in his usual good health until recently and was the last surviving member of his family.

He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Kate, wife Teresa (Duignan), sisters Mary Francis, Sr Elizabeth, Kathleen, Rose, Ann, Sr Monica, Philomena, Bridie and brother Chassie who died in infancy.

When Eddie was quite young his father suffered an illness resulting in Eddie being thrown in at the deep end of farming and with the help of family and kind neighbours he quickly got to grips with the demands and the ups and downs of everyday life and through the years he progressed and built up the farm with great skill and taste.

Eddie was synonymous with all community life in the parish, he had a deep faith, was a life-long member of the PTAA and recently was awarded a gold pin which he wore with great pride. He had a great singing voice and was a member of the Mullahoran Church choir for almost 80 years, and he taught his grandchildren all the old songs and ballads which he loved to hear them sing.

When it was time for a dance Eddie and Teresa were a fine couple as they stepped it out in double quick time. He loved a game of cards and attended all the local whist drives and he was a willing helper at the annual Apostolic Society’s sale of work along with Teresa.

In GAA circles Eddie was an avid supporter of the local Club and County, he never missed a game as his sons were valued Club and county players and now his grandchildren are doing him proud.

Eddie had a droll sense of humour and enjoyed a good story and could tell many about the old days, dances and concerts and all the old ways of working with horses and spades.

Eddie had a long life well lived and now his passing has left a great void in his family where he is sadly missed by his daughter Anna Marie (Philip), sons John C (Bernie), Eamon (Caroline), Raymond (Marie), grandchildren, David, Michael, Elaine, Colm, Killian, Sean, Mollie, Kate, James, Ben, Liam and Emer, nephews and nieces, neighbours and friends.

His remains reposed at Reilly’s Funeral Home, Kilcogy on Tuesday, December 30 and on Wednesday, December 31 funeral Mass was celebrated in Our Lady of Lourdes church Mullahoran and the ceremony was enhanced by the choir of which Eddie was a proud member. Celebrants were Fr Joe McGrath P.P. assisted by Fr Kevin Fay and burial took place to local cemetery alongside his beloved Teresa. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
