Longford student takes home award at the Stripe Young Scientist Exhibition

The recent Stripe Young Scientist Exhibition, which took place in the RDS, saw an innovative Longford student take home an prestigious award for his cutting-edge invention.

Ronan Lyons of Lanesboro Community College was presented with the Regeneron Award (Technology) for his device CAPILL, a medicine dispenser designed specifically for people with reduced hand mobility often arising from conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism. 

The exceptionally talented student, who was one of over 500 students exhibiting at the event, was presented with his award by Dr Muriel O’Byrne, Senior Vice President International Regulatory Affairs and Head of European Business Office at American biotechnology company, Regeneron.

The award from Regeneron, which made its name in merging biology with technology to develop life changing medicine, not only highlights the innovation behind Ronan's invention but additionally, the enormous benefit it will offer people with reduced mobility. 

The award marks yet another success for Ronan and CAPILL.

Last year, his invention also won the Boston Scientific Medical Devices Award at Sci-Fest 2025.
