Shawbrook is promising a memorable evening as part of the 2026 Longford Lights Festival. Taking place at 7pm tonight, as well as Saturday, February 21 from 7:30pm, the 22 members involved will be showcasing their months of hard work.

Shawbrook has been hosting workshops and lots of individuals, from ex-pupils, have been getting involved. There have been circus trainees over the two-months doing a programme, and will be getting involved as well.

“We started in November,” said Anica Louw, “with the core group. We worked on the 15th December, and then got back in January. That’s when the circus ladies decided to come in with us. Then yesterday, the two professional dancers from Limerick and Dublin arrived and are also part of it.”

“About 2 years ago, Shane said to me after I retired from my own school and company, would I not like to be involved more with the community. I started with the ladies football club in Legan. They couldn’t commit that much with family, work. Slowly and surely, I started to get more people involved. Anyway, it’s from 48 years of teaching, and wonderful to do this kind of work now. At age 73, I didn't think I’d still be doing it. The piece we’re doing involves winter. Because it is so cold, I thought why can’t we change it up? It’s with bells and lights with Vivaldi music. There’s two male dancers from Nigeria with a completely different feel to it. Juxtaposing between the ladies and two strong lads. Their background is street and breakdance, bringing a lovely contrast!”
