Men involved in violent Longford street brawl to be served with books of evidence
Three members of the Stokes family who were involved in a violent brawl on Ballymahon Street, Longford last October are each set to be served with a Book of Evidence on March 3.
37 year old Sean Stokes of 29 Ardnacassa Avenue, Longford; 36 year old Patrick Stokes of 6 Cartrun Breac, Lisbreac Road, Longford, and 31 year old John Paul Stokes, of 40 Palace Crescent, Longford stand accused of violent disorder “with persons unknown” as well as assault causing harm to a specific individual. The man they are alleged to have assaulted during the brawl was not named in court.

Solicitor John Anderson, acting as agent for Dublin based solicitor Andrew Broderick, represented all three accused in Longford District Court on the day.
Sergeant for the State, Mark Mahon, told the court the DPP had sent back a direction for ‘trial on indictment.’ This is reserved for more serious offences and consequently, carry harsher penalties if found guilty. The men did not speak for the duration of their time in court.
