The court heard that when Garda Shanley stopped the defendant, who was known to him, he carried out a search during which he “noticed an axe hanging out of a sports bag” that was in Mr Hartshorn’s possession.

Mr Hartshorn was brought to Longford Garda Station where he was then discovered in possession of drugs to the value of €50 when searched. Solicitor for the accused was John Anderson. Judge Owens accepted jurisdiction on the matter.
