A family business in Ballymahon for five generations, Skelly’s Ballymahon were the local agents for Pierce ploughs.

Pat Byrne’s granduncle John Skelly was treasurer of the first County Longford Ploughing held on John Roche’s land on Tuesday, March 12 1933.

On Thursday, February 26, Longford Ploughing Association members gathered in John Skelly’s own home and followed in his footsteps, to launch Longford Ploughing 2026.

A special thanks to Pat and Patrice Byrne and their team for hosting the launch night. It was a wonderful opportunity for LPA to meet their sponsors and to thank them for their vital financial support.

Thanks to everyone who came to launch the County Longford Ploughing Championships 2026.

Skelly’s Ballymahon recently featured on Ear to the Ground as the only Irish restaurant exclusively offering all native Irish Droimeann beef on their menu.

Organically farmed in the Midlands and on the islands of Lough Ree and processed by Rawle’s in Ballinalee, this genuine taste of Ireland is unique to Skelly’s, Ballymahon.
