Family of popular Longford man killed in road crash raise almost €10,000 for funeral costs

The family of a Longford man who was tragically killed in a single vehicle collision have raised almost €10,000 to pay for his funeral costs.

Kamil Gumiela of Cam, Edgeworthstown died following the collision which occurred on the N4 at Ballinafid, between Mullingar and Rathowen in the early hours of last Sunday, March 15.

The 21 year-old was the sole occupant single vehicle collision which occurred shortly after 12.50am.
Gardaí and emergency services were alerted and rushed to the scene, but the young man was pronounced dead a short time later.

Kamil had been living in the Cam area of Edgeworthstown in recent times and he had previously resided in Longford town.

Large crowds attended the funeral of the popular young man at St Mary's Church, Edgeworthstown on Friday at 12pm and the former pupil at Templemichael College in Longford was laid to rest afterwards in Aughafin cemetery.

Kamil's sister Aleksandra launched a GoFundMe fundraiser prior to her brother's funeral where she explained the family wanted to give the beloved son and brother "the best goodbye that he deserves".

She stated they were looking for a target of €11,000 and on Saturday evening the total amount raised to put toward's the Polish native's funeral was just over €9,800.

Aleksandra said, "I am fundraising for my younger brothers funeral. Kamil Gumiela, my dear brother and best friend, has passed away recently due to an unfortunate car crash accident.

"I want to give him the best goodbye that he deserves.

"All the funds that we raise will be going towards his funeral. If you are in any way able to donate please have the heart to help us out. "Thank you in advance and God bless.

Following the fatal single vehicle collision, Gardaí last week appealed for witnesses and any motorists who were travelling on the N4 near Ballinafid, county Westmeath on Sunday, March 15 between 12.30am and 1.10am to contact them.

His death notice read: “Kamil will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, beloved parents Miroslaw and Anna, dear sister Aleksandra and by his extended family and many friends.”
