Longford set to turn blue for Autism Awareness Day and Autism Awareness month

Niamh McKeown, Mary Kelly, Ann Ó Leary pictured several years ago supporting the cause with all things blue in aid of Autism as Longford town turned blue on Saturday.

Well-known local woman Ann Ó Leary will be turning Longford blue for the next two Saturdays for Autism Awareness and fundraising for local activities.

As it is Autism Awareness Day on April 2 and the whole month is Autism Awareness she will be running her Autism Awareness Turn Longford Blue Pop Up Shop in aid of St Christopher's

The shop will be located at 9 Grafton Court and it will be opened on Saturday, April 4 and on Saturday, April 11.

Ann said there will be lots of new and pre-loved items, dresses shoes, toys, ornament and homemade goodies on the day.

There will be numerous attractions such as face-painting on Saturday, April 11.

A bucket collection will take place in Longford town and a generous volunteer is needed to help.

Ann said  there will be special guests for children including a 'Pikachu' and a 'Unicorn' who will be paying a visit to shop on both Saturdays.

The fundraiser was established in 2014 and it is still growing strongly every year with the support of the people of longford who donate generously very much appreciated.

Ann said they will have another Disability Community Disco on April 19 in PVs Red Room from 2pm until 4.30pm.

DJ Kevin Hussey will be playing lots of good music and all ages are welcome and the venue is wheelchair friendly.

Ann said this will be her seventh disco in the last year for them.

"It is such a joy watching them singing and dancing with their friends," she added.

Ann said she is looking forward to seeing everyone who supports and participates in the events in April.
