BOGUS ALERT: Residents of North Longford warned of scam tradesmen posing as council workers

Longford County Council have said the fraudsters are claiming to either be from the county council or working on behalf of the council as external contractors, selling gravel, tarmacadam or similar materials at low cash prices, however these offers are not legitimate.

Longford Gardaí and Longford County Council have issued a stark warning to members of the public to remain vigilant of bogus tradesmen posing as council workers.

The scammers have been calling to houses in the North Longford area and are claiming to be from Longford County Council or working on behalf of the council as external contractors.

According to the council, the fraudsters have been offering gravel, tarmacadam or similar materials at low cash prices, however the council is keen to stress that these people are not employed by, or contracted by, the council.

Posting the alert on their social media, the council stated that the offers are not legitimate and that the council “does not sell materials in this way”.

They have asked people not to hand over cash to the bogus tradesmen and not to agree to any work.
