Longford TD Mícheál Carrigy said the construction of new fire station in the South Longford town will serve the growing population
There was a big boost for Ballymahon when the Government announced it will provide €3 million towards the building of a new fire station and Longford TD Mícheál Carrigy said it will 'future proof' and offer greater protection for local residents and businesses.
The Fine Gael politician stated the construction of new fire station in the South Longford town will serve the growing population and increasing number of tourists visiting the area.
Deputy Carrigy called for a new fire station during a recent questions session with Tánaiste Simon Harris several weeks ago where he referred to Center Parcs.
He said the population of Ballymahon was 3,000 but hundreds of thousands of tourists were now visiting the area and further investment was needed.

Deputy Carrigy said he was ''delighted' by the announcement.
“We want our firefighters to have the best facilities possible to deal with serious issues right across our communities in Longford. This investment ensures our fire services will have access to the modern tools, facilities and systems they need. "I think now the local authority need to finalise agreements on the site and get the project underway."
Deputy Carrigy explained the next step following the commitment of €3 million in funding for the facility.
"I think now the local authority need to finalise agreements on the site and get the project underway," he added.

Deputy Carrigy said the new fire station will be an excellent development which will serve Ballymahon and the surrounding areas well for many years to come.
"It's future-proofing the service in the area, and it will complement the existing service.
"We are well-served across the county with Longford, Granard, Edgeworthstown and Lanesboro, you know, this was the missing piece in the upgrade of facilities.
"It's much needed as there is a growing population, significant tourism investment into the region there as well.
"It's about protecting our citizens, our businesses and people's homes, and having that quick reaction time there by having our stations geographically spread throughout the county so that they are able to react to whatever situation arises."
