St Mary’s Granard are through to the U-21 ‘A’ Football Championship Final in their bid to win this title for the first time since 1996.
Clonguish are the opposition in the title decider at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday next (throw-in 1.30pm) following their 2-8 to 1-7 win over the Mostrim/Sean Connolly’s amalgamation in the semi-final at Emmet Park last night (Wednesday).
The Newtownforbes club previously won the U-21 ‘A’ Championship in 2017 and the current team are the firm favourites to achieve another success in this grade with Longford senior attacker Jack Duggan leading the charge.
St Mary’s had two points to spare over the Ballymahon/Kenagh amalgamation in the other semi-final at McGann Park on Sunday last, winning on a scoreline of 1-10 to 2-5.
Leading by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break, Micheal Hynes scored the decisive goal for Granard midway through the second half to stretch the advantage to a comfortable six points.
Trailing by 1-10 to 1-4, Ballymahon/Kenagh staged a spirited comeback to close the gap with a goal and a point but resilient St Mary’s held out for a fine victory.
