The Louth Footballers will not take part in the final round of Group A action in the O'Byrne Cup, having decided to award Wexford a walkover.

The Wee County had been due to make the trip South of the province to face off against the Slaneysiders, however news came through this afternoon via Louth GAA's social media pages that the tie was no longer going ahead.

Going into the game neither side would have had anything meaningful to play for, making it essentially a dead rubber contest.

Having already accounted for Westmeath and Kildare, Louth's superior head to head with both teams meant they could not be caught and were guaranteed a place in the semi-finals prior to the last round of fixtures.

Meanwhile Wexford had yet to win a match in the competition, so had no hope of progressing as only the top team in Group A was set to advance.

It now gives Mickey Harte's troops a valuable few days rest, having played their two prior games in just four days. Had the fixture taken place it would've been a third match in eight days, all ahead of a fourth outing this weekend.

They are set to square up in the Semi-Final with the winners of Dublin and Offaly, who lock horns on Wednesday night in Parnell Park.

The game will take place at a Louth venue this Sunday, at a time and venue which has yet to be announced.
