Oriel Windfarm is holding a public consultation event today (Wednesday, January 25) to inform the local community about its plans for a new offshore wind farm off the coast of Co Louth.
The proposed offshore wind farm project, which will be to the east of Dundalk Bay, will have the ability to generate enough clean renewable electricity to power about 300,000 homes per year.
Today’s public consultation session is being held at the Carroll Building at DkIT from 3pm until 8.30pm, and all are welcome. The event has an exhibition with the full details of the 375-megawatt (MW) project, and photomontages of what the wind farm will look like from key points on the Louth coast.
Representatives from Oriel will also be on hand to answer questions about the proposed project and to listen to community feedback.
“We want to hear the views of local stakeholders at DkIT today, and to update them on this hugely important renewable energy project for the region,” said Garrett Connell of, County Manager of Parkwind Ireland.
The Oriel wind farm, which is being developed by Belgian green energy company Parkwind and ESB, intends to lodge a planning application later this year.
The proposed wind farm will be located between 6 and 22km from the coast.
“The development and operation of the new wind farm will deliver significant local economic and community benefits to the whole North-East region,” Mr Connell said.
The wind farm project also has a virtual consultation room on its website which will be accessible throughout the current consultation period, which runs until February 20.
