Senator Erin McGreehan has encouraged women across Louth to get informed about Cervical Cancer Prevention.
Last week marked Cervical Cancer Prevention Week which is about Ireland's commitment to eliminating cervical cancer.
The HSE, NSS, NIO, and NCCP have developed a roadmap towards global targets set by the WHO to reduce cervical cancer.
The goals include HPV vaccination for 90% of girls by 2030, cervical screening for 70% of women by ages 35 and 45, and appropriate treatment for 90% of those identified with cervical disease.
The CervicalCheck program will soon launch a personal cervical screening review process to support women who develop cancer after the screening, with control of the process placed in the hands of the patient.
More information can be found on the HSE and NSS websites. #GetInformed is the key message for this Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.
Senator McGreehan said: “We want everyone to know that cervical cancer is a preventable and treatable disease, if detected early and managed appropriately.
"Cervical cancer is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can be reduced by getting vaccinated against HPV.
"The HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to protect yourself against cervical cancer.
"A day to acknowledge is World cancer day which is next Saturday 4th of February, it is important to acknowledge the great work that has been done to improve cancer outcomes for people.
"We still have a way to go to improve and support cancer trials and treatments but we as a country are most definitely on a positive trajectory.
"In 2023 I look forward to continuing my work with the Oireachtas Cross Party Committee on Cancer and also my work supporting the progression of the All Ireland Cancer Research Institute.
"I am passionate about my campaign to ensure awareness for Breast Cancer, supporting research and also moving forward with myself and my Fianna Fáil colleague Cllr Teresa Costello with our campaign to widen the age range for Breast Check."
