Mannan Castle Golf Course
The scoring across all 3 divisions was exceptional recently and it was no surprise to see one of the most consistent golfers in the club Shane Donohue take home division 1 with a great score of 31 pts, beating Fergal O’Rourke by one point.
Ever since Fergal Brady was announced as Vice-Captain his game has gone to another level with another brilliant score of 31 pts (with some of his playing partners wanting his handicap reviewed) to beat Jim Friel by a single point to win division 2.
The best score of the weekend came in Division 3 with Jim Kelly shooting a brilliant score of 33pts, beating Steven Taylor into second with a score of 31pts.
13 Hole Stableford Competition Weekend Ending 22 January 23: Div 1 - Shane Donohue PH (10) 31pts, Div 2 - Fergal Brady PH (15) 31pts, Div 3 - Jim Kelly PH (35) 33pts.
MANNAN CASTLE SENIORS
Following the lack of golf due to the bad weather, Mannan Castle Seniors had an enthusiastic return to competition. A large turnout provided some excellent scoring in great conditions for the time of year.
Sean Harvey, who was making his seniors debut, put an outstanding round together to compile 25 points for the 10 holes played. He will be a big addition to the seniors if he maintains this form.
However, it wasn't good enough on the day as Eddie Rouiller, who was subject to a one-point deduction, pipped him with 26 points. Eddie played very steady golf, with seven three-pointers on his card.
Joe Mullen finished third on countback ahead of Jim Hanratty on 24 points despite a par on the index 1 for four points. Joe's three points on each of the last three holes proved decisive.
Result Tuesday 24th January (Playing Handicap): 1st Eddie Rouiller (24) 26pts (27-1), 2nd Sean Harvey (23) 25pts, 3rd Joe Mullen (23) 24pts c/b.
MANNAN CASTLE LADIES
Just one winner in this week's Ladies Competition, but what a winning round it was as Louise Hanratty (5) carried forward her great form into the new year.
She carded ten pars in the thirteen-hole competition for a total of 27 points, finishing three points ahead of the nearest competitor, Kitty Sharkey who finished with 24pts.
